Most social media platforms allow you to "follow" or "subscribe" to a profile, but this option is very limited. First, following someone on social media does not guarantee that you will receive alerts for all posts and comments, as these platforms often limit the number of notifications you can receive and filter the content for you. Secondly, some activities simply cannot be monitored. For example Linkedin only notifies you about new posts, but not about new comments or new reactions. Also, you never get notified about a profile update. Last of all, when you follow someone on social media, this person sees that you are following her, which can be a problem in many cases. And if this person decides to remove you from her followers, you will stop being notified.
